Now that you can get Wifi access more or less everywhere that you travel - even in a pub over here in the UK -  it is becoming normal to take a laptop with you and keep up with your emails or upload and send yor holiday photos to your friends instead of postcards.  Most cameras create each image with an initial file size of at least 1mB so make sure you install enough Dell Memory before you leave home.

Dublin Airport

A weekend in Dublin or a touring holiday of Ireland is an easy trip from the UK, the flight is short and you can reach Dublin Airport from most of the UK provincial airports in less than an hour. The last time I was in Dublin we nearly missed the flight back because we completely misjudged the time needed to drive to the airport from most Dublin hotels. Although Dublin is not a very large city, the airport is more than eight miles from the city centre and roads between the city and the airport can get very busy. Read more »

Orlando tips

The good thing about visiting popular destinations is that competition among suppliers brings about some great deals for travellers. Orlando in Florida is a good example. This is a favoured resort with UK holidaymakers, especially families with children. The area is home to many of the top theme parks worldwide and parents have probably been pestered for some time to organise a trip to Disney World. You can certainly keep accommodation costs to a minimum by checking out Orlando.com. Read more »

Vacation Excursions LA

There is an extra attraction for anyone visiting California this year, now that England’s finest export, David Beckham, is playing for Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center in Carson. It is easy to book your tickets for Galaxy games and you can buy world series tickets at the same time, online, in advance, so you can pack as much as possible into your trip.

Poker on Vacation

With the growing popularity of playing poker online we could be in danger of forgetting that this excellent game actually began as a face to face activity!  Even the most casual gambler can get a chance to play the poker tables when staying in the right holiday destination. The first place that springs to mind is probably Vegas, but if you do a little research you can probably find a good casino in many other resorts for a good evening’s entertainment.

Teignmouth, Devon

Teignmouth is a beach resort town on the South Devon Coast, at the head of the Teign estuary. The town is still working port and you can see local fishing boats in the harbour with their catches of crabs and cockles. This is a very attractive traditional English seaside town which has not been tainted by tawdry tourist shops. The Victorian Pier and wide promenade are backed by a magnificent example of a Georgian Terrace, and give an excellent view of the bay and the neighbouring resort of Shaldon. The shopping area runs through beautiful narrow Victorian streets, pastie shops and fish and chips are prominent as they are in most of Devon. Read more »

Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Railway

In the south Devon and Torbay area this is an unmissable outing - the Paignton to Dartmouth Steam railway. Over just eight miles of track this magical steam line goes over some of Brunel’s most stunning viaducts to reach the wide Dartmouth estuary. Here you can relive the Great Age of Steam as you travel along the rail line known as The Nation’s Holiday Railway, travelling along the spectacular Torbay coastline to the port of Dartmouth and the fascinating River Dart Estuary. The round trip can also be combined with ferry trips or mini cruises returning to Totnes, Paignton or Torquay. Highly recommended.

Global and Local

The strange thing about travelling to another region or another country is the allure of novelty - food, art, textiles, clothing all have a new attraction.  We were looking with new eyes at all the local crafts and deli items in Devon last week, but we came down to earth  when we realised most of the things we saw were sold via an online furniture catalog or even on sale at our local farm shop complex: the world really is getting smaller!
