While we were away recently, enjoying some great English seaside hotels in Devon, we ended up talking to other guests and the hotel staff about how we found the best hotels for this Devon adventure. Brixham in Devon is one of the Torbay resorts, hugging the beautiful coastline of this panoramic bay on the south coast of England. Brixham is still a working fishing port where you can see the fishing catches being landed and taste locally caught fish and seafood from dozens of harbourside cafes and restaurants.

Above the town is Berry Head, categorised as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) - in our view this is the best reason to visit Brixham. Berry Head was the site of two forts built in 1793 to protect the English coast from threatened invasion by French armies. Only the castle ramparts remain now: this area forms part of the route of the South West Coast Path. Walking across Berry Head you will be rewarded with breathtaking views in all directions across the neighbouring bays and beaches. If you are lucky you can also watch the athletic climbers scaling the cliffs - as long as you can swim, this is a top location to climb in the UK without ropes. There is a welcome dog friendly cafe inside the ramparts of the main castle, where you can get great value lunches, Devon ice cream and afternoon scones and jam.

If you visit friends in the States while you are on vacation over there, ask if they have installed home theater seating
yet.  This is the next big thing in any American home that has the space, and the standard of furniture  available is impressive.  Anybody who can accommodate this kind of luxury seating need never tolerate other people’s popcorn noises again.

It is always worth checking out the smart things to buy on vacation, which are different in every country that you visit.  At the moment many visitors to the United States take an empty suitcase and go on a big spending spree to take advantage of the exchange rate.  The savings are big, and you could even check out a company like Century furniture who offer good shipping rates and see if you can get some of their styles for your own home.
