Why Rent An Apartment or Villa For Your Next Holiday?

The Benefits of Apartment & Villa Rental Holidays.

With the children now back at school and the cool chill of shorter autumn days now upon us, your thoughts may already be turning to next summers holiday or perhaps you are looking to get away from the damp and dreary British winter for a few days in sunnier climes.

So once you have drawn up your shortlist of suitable countries where the amount of sunshine and average daily temperature is significantly warmer than Margate or Skegness in January or July, the next most important decision is where to stay. What type of holiday accommodation will be most suitable for you and the family?

Thankfully, the days of the all inclusive package holiday with its rigid 7 or 14 day options, with flights only from Manchester or Luton airport on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays in the month, are for many of us no more than a distant memory which should now be consigned to the 1970’s… With the advent of cheap flights from an increasing number of UK airports to dozens of resorts around Europe, there has never been more choice and flexibility in terms of when and where to go!

From apartments to rent in sunny Spain, villas in France, Cyprus, Turkey,Portugal or Italy, vacation rental properties in Florida, beautiful holiday cottages in Ireland,Scotland,Wales or England or even ski chalets in the French Alps, the Austrian Tyrol or Italian Dolomites, today the world really is one’s oyster!

However despite all of these wonderful choices of destinations, the wrong choice of holiday accommodation can put a real dampener on what should be a time of carefree relaxation under foreign skies, a time to relax and distress from the daily grind in the UK.

For families of more than the typical two parents and two children, and for those who may consider extended winter breaks for example, the typical hotel offering can be very restrictive not to mention the expense!

More and more people are now aware of the many real benefits in renting a holiday home, apartment or villa directly from the owner.

With the advent of holiday home ownership, many owners are looking to create a regular stream of rental income from their investment in the sun and or the ski slopes and so the choice of property available to rent is undoubtedly greater than ever before.

Renting your own holiday apartment in Tenerife or Lanzarote, a holiday villa in Majorca or Menorica or a holiday cottage in Scotland or Wales, gives you so much more flexibility in terms of privacy, sleeping arrangements, and quite simply, being able to do what you want when you want! No more rushing down 6 flights of hotel stairs each morning to make sure you don’t miss breakfast!

It has never been easier to locate holiday apartments and holiday villas to rent and all manner of self catering holiday accommodation anywhere in the world!

The advent of the Internet has given rise to many holiday property rental websites where you can choose in the comfort of your own home, the resort, the time and the type of accommodation which suits you best.

Tips For Air Travel With Pets

Pets have always been a source of entertainment for people and gradually the emotional attachment make them a part of the family. Dog Friendly Hotels in Norfolk

We have stayed in Norfolk with our dog and at the time we had a very limited choice of dog friendly places to stay. Wells Next the Sea was our destination and we found a bed and breakfast that would not have been our first choice otherwise. Two years later the prospects for dog owners visiting Norfolk are a lot better. The first one is a real find – a true dog friendly hotel in one of the most attractive Norfolk coastal villages.

nullIn Cley, the George Hotel welcomes dogs in several of its guest rooms and in half the restaurant area. This is worth a gold star – there is no ‘hygiene’ reason to stop well-behaved dogs going into a restaurants with their families. Full marks to The George for its common sense attitude. The hotel is in the centre of the small village of Cley on one of the best stretches of the North Norfolk coast. The huge skies, acres of colourful saltmarsh and mile-upon-mile of unspoilt beaches are all on the doorstep here. Read more »

Dog Friendly Hotel Teignmouth

I wrote about Teignmouth as a place to stay recently, it is a nice laid back small resort with a great vibe. But one thing Teignmouth does not have is a dog friendly hotel – two hotels are listed by other online travel guides as being pet friendly but I contacted each of them, and they confirmed that the hotels do not accept pets. Just on the other side of the river Teign from Teignmouth is Shaldon, another pretty small resort, and there is a dog friendly small hotel here. The Glenside Hotel is in Ringmoor Road, Shaldon. Tel 01626 872448.

There is also an excellent art Gallery in Teignmouth called gallery 8. This gallery, in Teign Street, shows work by a co-operative of 22 local artists, with a wide range of exhibits including ceramics, wood turned objects and jewellery: tel 07762 167768. Here we discovered the paintings of Amanda Hyde, a local painter based in Torquay. She has a ‘naive style with a touch of seriousness’ – her use of strong colours is striking, see the photo. You can contact Amanda on 01802 293731 / 07981 851 546 .

Totnes to explore South Devon

I have written up quite a lot of information about Torquay, which is clearly the largest resort in Torbay, Devon. Torquay has all the amenities of a major town, and a large shopping centre. We stayed in Torquay in an excellent small dog friendly hotel, but the nightlife atmosphere in Torquay is downmarket and tacky. Another time I would recommend staying in one of the smaller resorts: I have posted some information on Babbacombe, another place I recommend as a base is Totnes. Read more »

Touring bases – South Devon

If the hustle and bustle of Torquay is not to your taste, then Babbacombe may appeal to you. This village is only two miles from the middle of Torquay and has two excellent beaches. The main beach is served by the Babbacombe Cliff Railway, making the ascent and descent easier. The smaller beach is dog friendly but the car park is very small: you could use the cliff railway and walk along the path from the main beach to get to the dog friendly area. The village centre is large enough to be interesting without becoming tacky, and there are several upmarket fish and chip shops – all boasting to serve the very best fish, of course. The Babbacombe model village is a big attraction for this area, this is a long established and well maintained miniature replica of buildings, people and vehicles depicting England’s past, present and future.

Babbacombe also has a relaxed dog friendly hotel with free WiFi internet access: the Downs Hotel also has stunning views over Lyme Bay. The hotel website is at www.downshotel.co.uk, or call them on 01803 328543

Review Dog Friendly Country House Hotel in Devon

I reviewed our recent stay in a very good dog friendly hotel in Torquay, Devon, where we spent five days exploring the Torbay area. On leaving Torquay we continued only about sixty miles further down the coast to the Kitley House Hotel, six miles outside Plymouth. This hotel, like the Hillcroft, came up when we searched for ‘dog friendly hotels with WiFi’. The Kitley website features a photo of a dog seated in front of the grand fireplace that dominates the entrance hall. The hotel makes a big point of its dog friendly approach, and four-legged visitors with a goodie bag and personal welcome letter. Read more »

Wales Country House Hotels Pet Friendly

If you are a pet owner and you want to stay in a country house hotel in Wales, of course you will want to take your dog with you.  Here are some hotels where your four legged friend will be welcomed with open arms – or should I say paws? Most will let your dog stay for free, which makes sense. Unfortunately there are sometimes extra charges for your pet’s stay.

The Lake Country House Hotel is located in Powys near the village of Llangammarch Wells, in fifty acres of parkland, with sweeping lawns, rhododendron lined pathways and riverside walks. Excellent for dogs to walk and roam around the grounds, this is an attractive hotel that keeps a welcome in the hillside for you and your dog in your own room only but there is a charge of £6 per night for dog guests. Dogs are not accepted in the reception areas. http://www.lakecountryhouse.com Read more »
