budget-travel.brilliant4biz.comHere are some more WiFi hotels where you can take your dog with you. This time I have been checking hotels in Gloucestershire. This is the English county where you have the highest chance of seeing a member of the Royal Family, the county is rural and typifies the image of Britain that most visitors from other countries are seeking. Review - Dog Friendly Hotel Torquay

I listed quite a few dog friendly hotels with WiFi in England recently, this was not simply an act of devotion by me: we wanted to find a place to stay for ourselves. As an independent travel blogger I pay my own way, so I do not get these opportunities to review a hotel as a guest very often. The Hillcroft is a small ‘Boutique Hotel’ with six rooms and suites in Torquay, situated about eight minutes’ walk from the centre of Torquay. This is quite a hilly town and the Hillcroft sits above the town, as the name implies. The walk is not too taxing but I would not advise anyone who is infirm to attempt it. Read more »

Teignmouth, Devon

Teignmouth is a beach resort town on the South Devon Coast, at the head of the Teign estuary. The town is still working port and you can see local fishing boats in the harbour with their catches of crabs and cockles. This is a very attractive traditional English seaside town which has not been tainted by tawdry tourist shops. The Victorian Pier and wide promenade are backed by a magnificent example of a Georgian Terrace, and give an excellent view of the bay and the neighbouring resort of Shaldon. The shopping area runs through beautiful narrow Victorian streets, pastie shops and fish and chips are prominent as they are in most of Devon. Read more »

Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Railway

In the south Devon and Torbay area this is an unmissable outing - the Paignton to Dartmouth Steam railway. Over just eight miles of track this magical steam line goes over some of Brunel’s most stunning viaducts to reach the wide Dartmouth estuary. Here you can relive the Great Age of Steam as you travel along the rail line known as The Nation’s Holiday Railway, travelling along the spectacular Torbay coastline to the port of Dartmouth and the fascinating River Dart Estuary. The round trip can also be combined with ferry trips or mini cruises returning to Totnes, Paignton or Torquay. Highly recommended.

Brixham & Berry Head, Devon

Brixham in Devon is one of the Torbay resorts, hugging the beautiful coastline of this panoramic bay on the south coast of England. Brixham is still a working fishing port where you can see the fishing catches being landed and taste locally caught fish and seafood from dozens of harbourside cafes and restaurants.

Above the town is Berry Head, categorised as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) - in our view this is the best reason to visit Brixham. Berry Head was the site of two forts built in 1793 to protect the English coast from threatened invasion by French armies. Only the castle ramparts remain now: this area forms part of the route of the South West Coast Path. Walking across Berry Head you will be rewarded with breathtaking views in all directions across the neighbouring bays and beaches. If you are lucky you can also watch the athletic climbers scaling the cliffs - as long as you can swim, this is a top location to climb in the UK without ropes. There is a welcome dog friendly cafe inside the ramparts of the main castle, where you can get great value lunches, Devon ice cream and afternoon scones and jam.

Country House Hotels in Yorks and Notts

country house hotelsCountry house hotels should be a place where dogs are welcome but that is not always the case. Here are some good ones, also offering WiFi access.

Langar Hall (pictured) is situated in the Vale of Belvoir between Nottingham and Stamford. This is an area that few overseas tourists find out about. Stamford is one of the best preserved Georgian towns in England and worth exploring further. The hotel will accept small well-behaved dogs and it has Wifi access in all rooms. www.langarhall.com.

dog friendly vacationFurther north, the Angel Inn is a 500-year old hostelry in the village of Hetton, North Yorkshire. Dogs are welcome, as long as they bring their own beds. No WiFi, so you can go out walking on the North Yorks Moors instead. The Angel is strictly speaking a restaurant with rooms, meaning food is the focus. The rooms look good as well, but do not let your dog on to your bed! www.angelhetton.co.uk

Dog Friendly Restaurants with Rooms in Wales

Here are some dog friendly restaurants with rooms located in rural Wales.

Tyddyn Llan is a true restaurant with rooms, using only the highest quality seasonal ingredients, many of which arrive daily from local suppliers including fish caught on the Welsh coastline. Dogs are accepted by prior arrangement. There is no WiFi here. The hotel is located close to Snowdonia, with the Roman City of Chester 35 miles away. At an equal distance to the west are the Mawddach and Dyfi estuaries leading to fine sandy beaches and rocky coves. http://www.tyddynllan.co.uk

Plas Bodegroes is an established restaurant with rooms, in its own secluded grounds. It is on the wild Llyn Peninsula, on the far north west of Wales, a mile from the seaside resort of Pwllheli, and well located for the North Wales countryside. Dogs are welcome, there is no WiFi internet access but you really will want to spend all your time in the beautiful gardens or the Welsh Hills. The rooms and the building look so good that I have included pictures of both. http://www.bodegroes.co.uk

Restaurants with Rooms

I have been researching more Restaurants with Rooms and here are some which are also dog friendly:

The Salty Monk is a 16C Restaurant with Rooms, located in the unspoilt natural beauty of Devon two miles from the sea close to Sidmouth. The hotel offers English Cuisine with a commitment to use only the freshest ingredients, supplied wherever possible from the West Country. Seafood is delivered daily from Brixham and select cuts of meat or game come from the butcher’s herd. http://www.saltymonk.co.uk/

The Museum Inn, near Blandford Forum in Dorset, is located in my favourite English county. This is a pub/restaurant with rooms, and dogs are welcome in the stable rooms, where there is direct access to the yard. Of course they are also welcome in the pub area. As you can see from the photo this is exactly how a traditional English country pub should look. http://www.museuminn.co.uk

I wrote last week about my search for UK holidays with WiFi and I am pleased to find that some enterprising hoteliers and cottage owners have installed WiFi in their accommodation. However I have another essential requirement in a place to stay on holiday - the hotel or cottage must be dog friendly.

http://budget-travel.brilliant4biz.com/wifi-hotels-in-devon Will the UK vacation market measure up? Well, yes, but I cannot review any holiday cottages for you this year because every WiFi cottage that I have found is booked up for August. This isn’t surprising, because most dog owners look for a dog friendly holiday home or cottage instead of a hotel or bed and breakfast. The reason is that dog owners worry that their dog might start barking and annoy the other guests, or that the hotel might simply tolerate dogs instead of welcoming them. So as we are making a late booking in the peak season we have to try for a dog friendly WiFi hotel instead. Read more »

WiFi on UK Holidays

It may seem a bit sad but I would like to keep in touch with my business while I am on holiday. As I am staying in the UK for my summer break it should be quite simple to find a holiday that is dog friendly in a holiday cottage or hotel with free wiFi connection, I think. So far I have checked out self catering cottages and the trend seems to be that the inland or remote cottages are more likely to offer wiFi. I guess they are compensating for the lack of other services. However we also want to be located in walking distance of a pub - or pubs - and within a few miles of a beach. We are also booking late, so the added problem is that most of the good cottages are booked for the next eight weeks I will keep surfing and see what I can find.
