Our genes are unique to each of us and are the blueprint for our bodies. The set of genes in each of us influences our height, development and predisposition to illness. In each body cell is a replica of our genes and DNA. The DNA are laid out in pairs of chromosomes and it is the chromosome from each pair that comes from father and mother that are proof of parentage. This is the essence of the modern paternity test, which can take a DNA sample from the child and wither parent to establish parentage.
