Dublin Airport

A weekend in Dublin or a touring holiday of Ireland is an easy trip from the UK, the flight is short and you can reach Dublin Airport from most of the UK provincial airports in less than an hour. The last time I was in Dublin we nearly missed the flight back because we completely misjudged the time needed to drive to the airport from most Dublin hotels. Although Dublin is not a very large city, the airport is more than eight miles from the city centre and roads between the city and the airport can get very busy.

For Dublin residents this can make it hard to judge the time needed to travel from home to the airport when you want to travel anywhere by plane, however the Dublin airport hotels are offering a neat arrangement that I have seen at Gatwick, where you can stay over at the hotel on the night before you fly and leave your car at the hotel while you are away. A courtesy bus takes you to the terminal and picks you up when you travel back.

Not only is it relaxing to stay over in comfort before your trip, it makes sense if your flight is scheduled for early in the morning. Even an 8am departure means you have to check in by 6am to allow time for all the security checks, so if you live outside the Dublin area you would be leaving home around 4am! Parking at these Dublin airport hotels is included in the room rate and if you compare the costs to normal airport parking you will probably find that it costs no more to stay at the hotel and park there. Far more fun, too.
