Eurostar is beating low cost airlines
The advantages of Eurostar over low cost airlines
Eurostar operates a high speed train service between London and the rest of Europe. It is evident that more and more travellers are favouring Eurostar as a mode of transport, with figures up twenty five percent year on year at the start of 2008.
,
A major advantage of travelling with Eurostar is that they run on time, with punctuality figure reaching almost ninety-four percent. A report in the Daily Telegraph newspaper earlier this month demonstrates that this is nowhere near the case with British Airways, who ranked 22nd out of 29 as one of Europe’s poorest performers for punctual arrivals and even worse at 23rd for departures. This is not the story with every airline and Flybe has outperformed many of it rivals with a punctuality record on its London to Belfast route, but the figure of eighty seven percent is still a long way short of Eurostar’s record.
London St Pancras International is a very convenient station to arrive at with no less than six underground links and seven mainline links connecting directly to it. Ebbsfleet International is situated just off junction two of the M25 and therefore convenient for those living in South East England, and there is also a free shuttle to this station and Ashford International on connecting Fasttrack buses and South Eastern trains. However it is not always as easy to find an airport close to home that is flying to the destination of your choice.
Booking is fast and easy with Eurostar who initiated Railteam, a joint venture between Europe’s top high-speed train operators, and the Railteam network is fast expanding which can only lead further improvements.
These days we are all concerned about the environmental impact and perhaps you remember reading an article in the Mail last March about how green taxation, one of the key themes of the budget was a con because the most frequent flyers are the rich, and evidence pointed to the fact that increasing taxation on air travel doesn’t change our behaviour. Additionally the new green rules, which demand planes to burn less fuel, are being viewed suspiciously because they might cause planes to crash.
All in all, Eurostar has a number of clear advantages over travel by low cost airlines, especially having partnered with Friends of the Earth to work together on the development of the Friends of the Earths, The Big Ask campaign and Eurostar’s, Tread Lightly scheme.
Eurostar has a continued initiative to help soften its impact on the environment and has also enjoyed ticket sales increases as a result.
An independent survey by “YouGov” shows that our views about travelling are changing, that we are starting to take action and expect others to do so as well.
