I have been having a look at the price of hotels in London, convenient for anyone visiting London for a conference. There is an excellent conference facility at the QEII centre, almost opposite the Houses of Parliament. The closest place to stay if you are a conference delegate would be near Victoria, where there are plenty of budget London hotels.
I think the best area to stay as a visitor to London is Bloomsbury. This is centrally located for all the major sites and it is very easy to get around from there. Bloomsbury is no sleazy tourist trap, it is close to the University and the British Museum. Bloomsbury and nearby Fitzrovia are among my favourite parts of London. They are packed with historic buildings and many of the large Georgian houses are now converted to form some fine London hotels. Have a look at the beautiful Regency Hotel (pictured). This is a classic London town house where you could stay for as little as £58 per night, located in Gower Street. This is close to Soho and the main theatres, but remains a peaceful enclave in the heart of the city.
