Teignmouth, Devon
Teignmouth is a beach resort town on the South Devon Coast, at the head of the Teign estuary. The town is still working port and you can see local fishing boats in the harbour with their catches of crabs and cockles. This is a very attractive traditional English seaside town which has not been tainted by tawdry tourist shops. The Victorian Pier and wide promenade are backed by a magnificent example of a Georgian Terrace, and give an excellent view of the bay and the neighbouring resort of Shaldon. The shopping area runs through beautiful narrow Victorian streets, pastie shops and fish and chips are prominent as they are in most of Devon. There are interesting craft shops in Teign Street, including an art shop featuring local artists. Next door is the yummy Hobbit tea room, where you can while away half an hour in beautiful surroundings.
Teignmouth does not have many hotels as most holidaymakers choose Bed and Breakfast or self catering accommodation. The Bay Hotel is situated on the seafront with sweeping views across the bay and you can wake up to the sound of the sea. The hotel has WiFi internet access in all rooms, but unfortunately it is not dog friendly.
