I wrote last week about my search for UK holidays with WiFi and I am pleased to find that some enterprising hoteliers and cottage owners have installed WiFi in their accommodation. However I have another essential requirement in a place to stay on holiday - the hotel or cottage must be dog friendly.
Will the UK vacation market measure up? Well, yes, but I cannot review any holiday cottages for you this year because every WiFi cottage that I have found is booked up for August. This isn’t surprising, because most dog owners look for a dog friendly holiday home or cottage instead of a hotel or bed and breakfast. The reason is that dog owners worry that their dog might start barking and annoy the other guests, or that the hotel might simply tolerate dogs instead of welcoming them. So as we are making a late booking in the peak season we have to try for a dog friendly WiFi hotel instead. Some of the hotels I found were positively welcoming to dogs and they offered WiFi, here are the results so far:
Kitley House Hotel - pictured above - is not just a dog friendly hotel, it is a truly dog understanding hotel! They understand that dogs come in all sizes and welcome them all. All rooms have wired internet access and the public areas offer free WiFi. The hotel is located close to Plymouth in Devon - http://www.kitleyhousehotel.com.
Bovey Castle Country Hotel is located in the Dartmoor National Park has wireless connections, and claims to be dog friendly, stating that it ‘extends its welcome to guests of the four legged variety.’ However, they do issue guests with a PDF file containing ‘dog rules’. www.boveycastle.com
The Arundell Arms, near Okehampton in Devon, is listed on a ‘dog friendly holiday directory‘ but the website is not explicit about facilities for your dog, so I think dogs are only tolerated. The hotel has WiFi in the lounge and bar and it is a real British institution - a sporting hotel specialising in fishing. www.arundellarms.com
Well those are the results so far. I have also found another complete gem of a hotel but I am not listing it until I have secured my booking, otherwise another dog owner who wants WiFi may book the last room!! If you know about good dog friendly holiday accommodation - not just in the UK - with WiFi, please leave a comment.
